About the place

The tower, also called Steingasser, was built in the early 16th century and completed in 1534. It was one of the main gates into Mediaș, on the north side of the wall. It has two upper floors, stands 25.8 metres tall and was looked after by the stonemasons' and builders' guild.

Today the Municipal Museum manages the tower and sometimes holds exhibitions there, such as one of pictures made from spider webs in 2025. You can see the outside at any time, free of charge.

Good to know

  • For the interior, ask at the Municipal Museum, which runs it.
  • Combine it with Passage Bistro and a walk along Honterus Street.
  • In town you can also see the Blacksmiths' Tower and the Forkesch Tower on the south-east side of the wall.
